On 12 July 2013, Ambassador Thanatip Upatising was invited to the opening ceremony of the Japan tour of the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace, held at Sotoshu Daihonzan Sojiji Temple in Tsurumi Ward of Yokohama City, where he delivered his remarks. The Buddha statue, which is 2.5 meters high and weighs 4 tons, was carved from the world biggest jade stone in order to remind all people of universal peace. It took 5 years to complete the statue and has been brought to more than 16 countries including Thailand since 2007. The Jade Buddha will be presented to public until 21 July 2013 at Sojiji Temple. Then, it will be exhibited at Iwatsuki Taishi in Saitama during 27 July-4 August 2013 and Kesennuma during 10-18 August 2013.
