The Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism The Head Temple of Nenbutsushu Sampozan Muryojuji, the Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism, is located in Kami-Mikusa, Kato city, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the largest Buddhist temples in the world with the precincts of 1,820,000 square meters and is the sacred place for the 520 million Buddhists in the world.
The construction of the Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism was proposed and unanimously decided by the supreme Buddhist leaders gathering from the five continents at the 4th Buddhist Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand, in November 2005. The 4th Buddhist Summit conference was held as a national event in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of H.M. King Bhumibol Aduladej’s Accession to the Throne, and H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn declared its opening on behalf of H.M. thelate King of Thailand. The Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism was inaugurated in November 2008.
In the Sakyamuni Hall of this temple, enshrined are the Buddha images dedicated by H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, King Rama IX, H.M. King Maha Vajralongkorn, H.R.H. Princess Maha Charkri Sirindhorn, H.R.H. Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya, and H.H. the late Supreme Patriarch Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara who was the teacher of H.M. the late King when His Majesty was ordained. There are also Buddha images dedicated by the supreme Buddhist leaders, Royal Family members, and national leaders from 43 countries around the world.
In the Sutra Hall, all the scripturesof Buddhism (collection of Buddhist sutras) dedicated by the supreme Buddhist leaders from various countries in the world including H.H. the late Supreme Patriarch Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara.Also, the holy relics of H.H. the late Supreme Patriarchare enshrined at this temple by the special permission of H.M. the late King.
The head temple of Nenbutsushu Sampozan Muryojuji has a deep bond with the Kingdom of Thailand.The Royal Family members as well as many Thai people have come to visit this temple. National leaders, Royal Family members, high governmental officials, high priests, and many pious Buddhists from other countries around the world also have frequently come to visit this Buddhisttemple.
On February 4, 2017, the 100-day Merit-making Grand Ceremony dedicated to H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was conducted at the Main Hall of the Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism in the presence of many dignitaries of Thailand including H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, H.E. Dr. Chaweerat Kasetsoontorn, Vice Minister of Culture, H.E. Bansarn Bunnag, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan. Following the Buddhist ceremony, the exhibition on the 130th Anniversary of Thailand-Japan Diplomatic Relations “A Memorable Tribute to H.M.King Bhumibol Adulyadej” was held for one week at the Sakyamuni Hall of this temple. These special events were co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture of Thailand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, Royal Thai Consulate General in Osaka, and Nenbutsushu Sampozan Muryojuji Temple. The visitors to the special exhibition reached over 160,000, making it a great success.
