Ambassador congratulates Thai athletes from wheelchair racing, boccia, badminton and taekwondo teams for their success in Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

On 4 and 6 September2021, Ambassador Singtong Lapisatepun congratulated Thai athletes from wheelchair racing, boccia, badminton and taekwondo teams for their success in Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

The wheelchair racing and boccia have the same number of athletes winning the medals. The wheelchair racing team members areMr. Pongsakorn PAEYO, who won3 gold medals in men's 100m, 400m, 800m (T53 class), the highest number of gold medal that a Thai athlete ever won from the Paralympics; Mr. Athiwat PAENG-NUEA,a gold medalist from men's 100m and a silver medalist from men's 400m (T54 class), Mr. Prawat WAHORAM, a silver medalist in men's 1,500m (T54 class), Mr. Putharet KHONGRAK, 2-bronze medalist from men's 1500m and 5000m (T54 class),and Mr. Saichon KONJEN, a bronze medalist in Men's 800m (T54 class).

The boccia athletes won a gold medal in BC1/BC2 team event. The champions for the group event are Mr. Watcharaphon VONGSA, Mr. Witsanu HUADPRADIT, Ms. Subin TIPMANEE, and Mr.Worawut SAENGAMPA. In individual events, Mr. Watcharaphon VONGSA won another silver in BC2 and Mr. Pornchok LARPYEN also won a silver in BC4 category.

The Thai team also made a record of winning medals from badminton and taekwondo which were inaugurated for the first time at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Ms.Sujirat POOKKHAM received a silver medal from women’s singles WH1 category a bronze from women’s doubles WH with her partner, Ms. Amnouy WETWITHAN.Ms. Khwansuda PHUANGKITCHA, a taekwondo athlete, also won a bronze medal in the Women K44 -49kg. event.

Ambassador Singtong regarded them as heroes who have brought pride and joy to the people of Thailand. He also commended about the success of the wheelchair racing team who won the most medals for the Thai Paralympics Team. Lastly, he expressed his sincere appreciation for their relentless perseverance which shows in their excellent performances and brought a great honour to the nation.
