Ambassador visits Ueno Zoo, Tokyo

02/11/2021

On 27 October 2021, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, met with Mr. FUKUDA Yutaka, Director of the Ueno Zoo, Tokyo, to express gratitude for taking good care of Thai elephants and visited two Thai elephants, Uthai and Arun, at Ueno Zoo.

31 October 2021marks the first birthday anniversary of Arun, a Thai elephant born from Arthit and Uthai. The Embassy brought Arun’s favourite fruits to celebrate his first birthday. Furthermore, Ambassador Singtong expressed his sincere appreciation to Ueno Zoo for helping restore the Thai Pavilion, which was built in 2007 to celebrate the 120th anniversary of Thai-Japanese relations.

Ambassador Singtong also discussed with Mr. FUKUDA about the possibility of exhibiting a “Chiang Rai Elephant” art statue at the zoo. The Embassy hopes that “Chiang Rai elephant” which is painted with Thai art patterns would help promote Thailand to the zoo visitors, and allow them to join the celebration of the 135th anniversary of Thai-Japanese relations next year.
