On 9 December 2021, H.E. Ambassador Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, participated in the “Asia-Africa 20 Special General Meeting” held at the Prince Park Tower Tokyo. The “Asia-Africa 20” is a business platform aiming to enhance relations between Japanese corporations and countries in Asia and Africa.
In the reception following the Meeting, Ambassador Singtong gave a toast on behalf of the participating diplomatic corps, in which he introduced the story of Pla Nil (Nile Tilapia), freshwater fish as an important source of protein for the Thai people. Pla Nil (Nile Tilapia) was donated from Japan to Thailand and, in many years later, Thailand brought the aquafarming technology of Pla Nil to its home continent, Africa. The story is the perfect example of mutual cooperation between African and Asian countries including Thailand and Japan, which matches well with the concept of the “Asia-Africa 20”.
