Ambassador of Thailand to Japan welcomed Deputy Mayor of Kawagoe City and Chairperson of Thai Community in Saitama

On 1 June 2022, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, welcomed Mr. KURIHARA Kaoru, Deputy Mayor of Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, and Ms. Supattra Rattanasuksri, Chairperson of the Group of Thai Community in Saitama, at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo. The delegation comprised of officials from Kawagoe City and members of Thai Community in Saitama.

Deputy Mayor KURIHARA and Kawagoe City officials briefed about Kawagoe which is a famous tourist destination for Thais. Kawagoe City and Thailand also has a cooperation on cultural exchanges. Moreover, Kawagoe City was the Host Town for the Thai Karate National Team during the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

On this occasion, Mrs. Sujinda Izumida, Advisor to the Group of Thai Community in Saitama, informed the Ambassador of the Group’s activities. The Thai Community in Saitama has rendered assistance to Thai nationals, in particular emergency cases of the Thai tourists during their stays in Japan. They also support cultural cooperation between Kawagoe City and Thailand, including Songkran Festival (Thai New Year),Thai parade, Thai food demonstration, traditional Thai dance and Thai-Japanese language exchanges.

Ambassador Singtong expressed appreciation to the City and the Group. He also reiterated the Embassy’s intention to continue close cooperation with the Kawagoe City and the Group of Thai Community in Saitama
