On 24 June 2022, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, attended the 2nd General Meeting of Sendai-Thailand Economic Friendship Association, as a Special Advisor to the Association at Palace Heian event hall. The meeting was also attended by
Ms. KOORI Kazuko, Mayor of Sendai City, Mr. ABE Kazuo, Chairman of the Association, and the members of the Association.
Ambassador expressed his pleasure of being able to visit Sendai and to strengthen relations with the Association. Over the past few years, the exchange with local cities in Japan including Sendai unfortunately came to a halt due to the COVID-19 situation. Ambassador also expressed his appreciation to the Association for organising activities to promote friendly relations continuously between Thailand and Sendai, resulting in warmer ties at all levels, including the government level, the private sector and people-to-people contact.
Ambassador also thanked the Association in organising the 10th Thai Festival in Sendai on 25-26 June 2022. This clearly shows the Association’s active role in promoting friendly relations between Thailand and Japan.
Ambassador reiterated his readiness to cooperate with the Association in all dimensions, be they economic exchange, tourism or people-to-people contact. Now there is a growing number of Thai investors who invest in Sendai, especially in the energy sector. Ambassador also invited Sendai people to visit Thailand as the bordermeasures have become relaxed. Thailand Pass registration will be lifted from 1 July 2022 onwards.
The General Meeting of the Association adpoted an action plan to further promote relations between Thailand and Sendai including the resumption of direct flight between Sendai and Bangkok which was suspended during the COVID-19 outbreak, plan to organise “Sendai Festival in Bangkok” and “Thai Festival in Sendai” to promote tourism exchange
