President of the World Professional Muaythai Federation in Japan paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador.

On 1 July 1 2022, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, welcomed Mr. Weerasak Lek Wongprasert, President of the World Professional Muaythai Federation (WPMF) in Japan and the owner of Wirasak Lek Fairtex Muay Thai Gym, accompanied by Ms. Jarinya Koyama, at the Embassy.

Ambassador expressed his congratulations for “Phayahong Ayothaya Fight Gym” or Chanthakan Manoban, who practiced Muaythai at Mr. Weerasak Lek’s Muay Thai Gym during K-1 championship tournament in Japan and won K-1 World Grand Prix 2022 on 25 June 2022. This made her globally known as the first Thai female boxer who won K-1 championship.

Ambassador also thanked Mr. Weerasak Lek for his continued cooperation with the Embassy in promoting Muaythai in Japan. The Royal Thai Embassy and Mr. Weerasak Lek will cooperate in Thai boxing promotion activities at the Thai Festival at AEON Mall Makuhari- Shintoshin, Chiba Prefecture, which will be held during 23 – 25 September 2022.

The Ambassador informed that the Royal Thai Government is promoting Muaythai to be included in the Asian Games and the Olympics in the future. He also reiterated that the cooperation with Thai boxing Gyms in Japan to make Muaythai popular among the Japanese people is not only important to promote Thai culture, but also generates income for Thai people and stimulates the economy for Thailand as well.
