Ambassador visited Odate City, Akita Prefecture

On 5 August 2022, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, and spouse visited Odate City, Akita Prefecture, and paid a courtesy call on Mr. FUKUHARA Junji, Mayor of Odate City.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen their cooperation in sports as Odate City was the host town for Thai boccia athletes during the Tokyo Paralympics, as well as in education and tourism exchanges.

Ambassador Singtong was impressed by the warm welcome from the people of Odate City. He also thanked the Odate City for giving support to Thai boccia athletes which was a crucial part of their success on winning one gold medal and two silver medals at the Tokyo Paralympics.

After that, Mr. FUKUHARA kindly hosted a luncheon to welcome the Ambassador, his spouse and staff from the Royal Thai Embassy.

Earlier on the same day, Ambassador Singtong visited the Akita Dog Visitor Centre and learned the story of Hachiko, an Akita dog that was born in Odate City and is well known around the world for its loyalty to the owner.
