On 26 August 2022, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, accompanied by Mr. Sorut Sukthaworn, Consul-General of Thailand to Fukuoka, paid a courtesy call on Mr. KIRIAKE Kazuhisa, Chairman of the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly, on the occasion of Ambassador’s visiting Fukuoka Prefecture. Mr. NIEDA Genki, Vice Chairman of the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly and President of Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly Association for the Friendship between Japan and Thailand, as well as the members of the confederation also attended the meeting. The Association is a key mechanism to promote close relations and cooperation between Thailand and Fukuoka Prefecture.
Both sides reaffirmed their determination to further strengthen the already close and friendly relations between Thailand and Fukuoka Prefecture. Ambassador Singtong emphasized the importance of Fukuoka Prefecture in deepening relations with Thailand as Fukuoka Prefecture is located in Kyushu region which is nearest to Thailand by distance. The Royal Thai Government therefore decided to establish the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Fukuoka in 2018 to concretize the close relations.
Both sides welcomed the opening of a direct flight between Bangkok and Fukuoka by Thai Vietjet Air. The airlines is also considering the possibility of opening a direct flight between Chiang Mai and Fukuoka.
Mr. NIEDA also attended the opening ceremony of the Thai Festival in Fukuoka as a representative of the Prefectural Assembly, which was later held in the same evening. Many members of the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly expressed their congratulations on the organization of Thai Festival in Fukuoka during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly expressed its full support for the event, which allows the people in Fukuoka to experience the charm of Thailand, and to stimulate the economy of the Prefecture.
