On 2 September 2022, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, presided over a meeting with Muay Thai operators in Japan at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo to jointly promote Muay Thai in Japan.

The meeting was attended by 12 operators from 7 Muay Thai boxing gyms in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Gunma and Osaka. Team Thailand from the Office of Labor in Japan and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Tokyo Office, as well as officers from the Information and Cultural Affairs Section and the Consular Affairs Section, also joined the meeting to support Muay Thai in Japan.

Muay Thai or Thai Fight is Thailand’s national heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation. Its impact is considered as one of Thailand’s 5F cultural promotional tools, along with Food, Film, Fashion and Festival. The Embassy also gave a presentation on the Royal Thai Government’s policy of promoting Muay Thai to the world with an aim to be accepted as an international sport. Muay Thai also helps create a positive image of Thailand and encourage Japanese people to travel to Thailand, understand Thai culture and become true friends of Thailand. Ways and means to promote Muay Thai and Muay Thai tourism were also discussed at the meeting.

Ambassador Singtong also gave advice to Muay Thai operators on how to adapt to the new environment in Japan. He also attended to the problems and obstacles that Thai entrepreneurs and Muay Thai trainers are facing in Japan.
