On Saturday, 10 September 2022, Kawasaki Frontale Football Club and the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo jointly organised a Thai festival under the name “DakishimeTAI” (I want to hug you.) at Todoroki Stadium, Kanagawa Prefecture.
By using a pun for the word “Thai”, this event was specially organised to promote Thainess to the Japanese people. The Embassy also set up a Thai booth to promote T-Pop. Participants could enjoy themselves at the Embassy’s booth in a musical chair game by passing balls around in circle while listening to Thai pop music and receive special souvenirs from Thailand.
The Embassy would also like to thank “Yuru”, Japanese duo singers famous for covering Thai songs in Japanese language, and“Stamp”- Mr. Apiwat Ueathavornsuk, a Thai famous singer. Both participated in the Embassy’s game and held a fan meeting activity at the booth. The Embassy also appreciates cooperation from Mr. SHIRATAI Kenji, a Japanese YouTuber known as “Mamuang”, who helped conducting the game and created fun atmosphere at our booth.
The event also features Thai food and other Thai cultures, such as Muay Thai, Sepak takraw, Thai massage, in addition to the performances from “Yuru” and “Stamp” on the mini stage.
This special Thai Festival in Kawasaki city was held ahead of the match between Kawasaki Frontale VS Sanfrecce Hiroshima. At least a total of 30,000 spectators attended the match and the fair.
Before the match, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, gave an opening remarks and presented a flower garland to Kawasaki Frontale’s team captain. The garland prepared by the Embassy was specially adorned by a beautiful light blue “dolphin”, the club's mascot. Ambassador Singtong also kicked a penalty goal to start off the game.
On the day, approximately 300 Thai supporters living in Japan gathered at the stadium and waved Thai flags to support Thailand’s “Messi-J” - Mr. Chanathip Songkrasin, a Thai footballer and a member of the Kawasaki Frontale team. Thai fans were also impressed that Kawasaki Frontale cheering squad transformed themselves into big Thai flag to support Mr. Chanathip. The game was ended with Kawasaki Frontale winning over Sanfrecce Hiroshima at the score 4-0.
The Embassy would like to thank Kawasaki Frontale Football Club for its kind cooperation in jointly organising this special event. We also wish to congratulate Kawasaki Frontale for their victory in this memorable match.
