On 15 October 2022, H.E. Mr. Singtong LAPISATEPUN, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, and his spouse, attended the Kawagoe Festival in Saitama Prefecture, which was organised by the Kawagoe City.
The Kawagoe Festival is held on the 3rd weekend of October every year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was cancelled for two years. This year’s Festival was successfully organized with Mr. ONO Motohiro, Governor of Saitama Prefecture, and Mr. KAWAI Yoshiaki, Mayor of Kawagoe City giving opening remarks.
On the same occasion, Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Kawagoe City. The meeting was also attended by Mr. HARA Toshinori, President of the Saitama-Thai Friendship Association. Both sides agreed to continue promoting friendly relations between Thailand and the city in all areas, especially on tourism and at people-to-people level.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, there were many Thai tourists visited Kawagoe.
It is believed that, from now on, a great number of Thai tourists will resume their journey to the city.
The Kawagoe City has had a cordial relationship with Thailand in many fronts. Three Thai volunteer groups in Saitama have been working closely with the city. The Kawagoe City was also a host town for the Thai karate team during the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.
