During his visit to Yamagata Prefecture on 31 October- 1 November 2022, H.E. Mr. SingtongLapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, paid courtesy calls on Ms. YOSHIMURA Mieko - Governor of Yamagata Prefecture,Mr. SATO Takahiro - Mayor of Yamagata City, Mr. TSUCHIDA Seigo - Mayor of Higashine City, and Mr. SHIFU Takao - Mayor of Murayama City,on separate occasions.
Ambassador Singtong andGovernor of Yamagata Prefecture and Mayors of different cities in Yamagata Prefecture agreed to increase exchanges between Thailand and Yamagata, including tourism, economy, investment, sports, education and human resources. Moreover, the Governor of Yamagata Prefecture and the Mayors reaffirmed their support to Yamagata-Thailand Friendship Association, that was jointly established by Thailand and the private sector in Yamagata Prefecture.
A number of Yamagata Prefecture representatives traveled to Thailandbefore the COVID-19 pandemic. Ambassador therefore extended to the Governor and the Mayors the invitation to visit Thailand again to strengthen relations in various fields.
Yamagata Prefecture is known for its agricultural products, including beef and cherries. The prefecture is also famous for the beautiful cherry blossom trees and is also a member of the Creative City of UNESCO. In addition, Yamagata City was a host town for Thai judo athletes in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 for which Thailand is thankful.
