Thai Festival 2023

The 23rd Thai Festival in Tokyo was held on May 20-21, 2023 in Yoyogi Park. More than 300,000 people attended the impressive festival, making it a significant comeback after a three-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year Festival was a collaboration of the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo and its private sector partner, G-Yu Creative Co., Ltd.. A total of 118 Thai food stalls, shops, and product booths of both the public and private sectors were set up in the heart of Tokyo to promote Thainess to the Japanese people. The Office of Agricultural Affairs and Office of Commercial Affairs of the Royal Thai Embassy and other sections, presented an exhibition showcasing the BCG (Bio-Circular-Green) economy model, which was popular among visitors. The photo booth decorated with Thai orchid garnered a lot of attention. Moreover, the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) promoted Thai tourism at the event.

H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, the Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, together with Ms. Yuparet Eakturapakal, CEO of G-Yu Creative Co., Ltd., and Mr. Iwamoto Keiichi, Deputy Director-General of the Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, delivered speech at the opening ceremony. More than 200 honorable guests participated.

The two-day festival was warmly welcomed by both Japanese and Thai people. Thai food and fruits stalls (durian and mangoes in particular) were highly popular. People also enjoyed varieties of stage performances ranging from Muay Thai demonstrations to the contemporary musical performance and the shows of the Thai artists namely Mai Charoenpura, Stamp Apiwat, BNK48, Patcha Chanudom, Nanon Gorapat, Pond-Puwin, Toptap Jirakit, etc. The attendance of celebrities such as Dewi Sugarno, FujiiKase, and J Chanathip spiced up the festival even further.

The Thai Festival in Tokyo is considered one of the largest outdoor festivals organized by foreign missions in Japan and has been organized continuously for over 20 years. It serves as a significant mechanism for promoting people-to-people relations between Thailand and Japan. This year, in addition to Tokyo, Thai festivals were held or are going to be held across Japan in more than 10 other cities including Chiba, Osaka, Shizuoka, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Sendai, Kawasaki, Saga, Oita, and Kobe. From today to June 16, 2023, there is also a special campaign called "Fine Thai in Your Area," which gathers Thai restaurants, products, and goods at special prices, at www.thaifestival.jp/fine-thai-in-your-area. Participants also have a chance to win round-trip flight tickets from Tokyo to Bangkok on Thai Airways and Thai Air Asia X.
