Governor of Tokushima Prefecture paid a courtesy call on Ambassador


On June 7 2023, Mr. GOTODA Masazumi, Governor of Tokushima prefecture, who had just taken office as Governor on 18 May 2023, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, at the Royal Thai Embassy.

Governor GOTODA expressed his wishes to see a direct flight between Tokushima prefecture and Thailand in order to promote exchanges between the Shikoku region and Thailand and other foreign countries. Ambassador Singtong stated that each prefecture in the Shikoku region has appealing points, either culture or nature, which are attractive for the Thai tourists. In this regard, he looked forward to an operation of direct flights from Thailand to Tokushima prefecture as well.

Both sides also discussed ways to promote people-to-people exchanges in the fields of education and tourism. At present, there are 11 companies from Tokushima prefecture running business or investing in 5 provinces in Thailand. The universities in Tokushima prefecture and universities in Thailand also conduct academic exchange programmes.
