On August 26, 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy participated in the “DakishimeTAI” Thai Festival for the second consecutive year. The festival, organised by the Kawasaki Frontale football club, took place at the Todoroki Stadium in Kanagawa Prefecture.
The festival had numerous activities to showcase Thai culture, such as Muai Thai, SepakTakraw by Japanese national players, T-Pop cover songs by the Yuru band, and food stalls and kitchen cars selling Thai cuisine and beverages. All of them attracted a lot of Japanese football fans.
The Embassy’s booth, this year, aimed to introduce a Thai fruit “mangosteen” to Japanese customers. The Embassy arranged games and quiz about mangosteen and presented mangosteens which are imported directly from Thailand as prizes.
The said Thai festival was held before the start of the football match between Kawasaki Frontale and Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, with more than 20,000 spectators.
Prior to the match, Mr. Romdej Pisalapongse, Minister Counsellor, met with Mr. Akira Yoshida, Representative Director of Kawasaki Frontale. Both sides discussed initiatives to enhance the relationship between the Thai League and the J-League, and future activities. Furthermore, after the match, Minister Counsellor Romdej met with Mr. Supachok Sarachat, a Thai footballer currently playing for Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo. Mr. Supachok played throughout this match, which was resulted in a draw with a score 2-2.
