On September 2, 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo collaborated with Mr. Phoovadej Larprojpaiboon, also known as Pro, a young Thai designer and the founder of the brand "ablankpage," to host a fashion show at Shibuya Hikarie Hall B. This event was a part of the Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2024 and aimed to spotlight the creative competency and potential of the next generation of Thai designers among the Japanese fashion industry. The event attracted more than 300 participants, including fashion-focused media personnels, fashion enthusiasts, and members of the diplomatic corps.
The collection, titled "Expired," featured innovative designs crafted from upcycled materials sourced from the renowned textile manufacturer, Nishikawa Keori and the Edwin brand. The Installation Show comprised a total of 25 sets, with one special creation designed in collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, using exquisite Thai Mudmee silk.
The stage presentation utilised cardboard boxes and a substantial display of ready-to-eat food items commonly found in convenience stores or supermarkets. This artistic choice aimed to reflect on everyday waste generated due to factors like expiration dates. The collection predominantly showcased Thai products, some of which received from Thai supermarkets in Japan and companies importing Thai products into Japan.
The reception featured an array of Thai fusion snacks, including shrimp spring rolls and Kanom Tokyo Charcoal. Attendees also enjoyed authentic Thai beverages such as Thai tea and Pandan-lemongrass juice, which garnered positive reviews for their tasty flavors.
During the interview with media, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, emphasised that fashion is one of the 5Fs (food, films, fashion, fighting, and festivals) of Thai culture that the Thai government aims to promote globally. He expressed his delight in seeing the work of a promising young Thai designer showcased at such a prestigious international event.
From September 6 to 9, "ablankpage" also hosted a showroom exhibiting the entire collection at Space R, Daikanyama Station in Tokyo. For more information, please visit Instagram ablankpage._official
