President of the Yamagata-Thailand Friendship Association paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador.

On 24 August of 2023, Mr. SAGAE Hiroji, President of Yamagata Shimbun and the Yamagata-Thailand Friendship Association, and his delegation paid a courtesy call on Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, and his spouse at the Ambassador’s residence to express his farewell wishes. On the same occasion, the delegates also had a chance to revisit the cherry blossom trees that the Association previously gave to the Embassy and planted them in the garden of the Ambassador’s residence.

The two sides discussed about the relationship between Yamagata Prefecture and Thailand, which overcome the hardship that was posed by the covid-19 situation, and the ongoing project to grow more cherry blossom trees in Thailand after the Association successfully planted cherry blossom trees in Chiang Mai Province in February 2019. The Association will travel to Thailand to visit the plantation site again in November 2023.

At the end of their meeting, Mr. Sagae gave a memorable souvenir of made of woven cloth, which is famous in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, to Ambassador and his spouse as a token of appreciation.
