H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, the Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, accompanied by his spouse, visited Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, from 14-15 June 2024, to attend the Sendai-Thai Economic Friendship Association meeting as a special advisor to the Association. The Ambassador also delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the 12th Thai Festival in Sendai together with Ms. Kazuko KORI, Mayor of Sendai and Mr. Jun NISHIMAKI, the Chairman of the Thai Festival in Sendai Organizing Committee. Following the ceremony, the Ambassador hosted a thank-you luncheon for the Committee.
During the visit, the Ambassador met with executives of Tohoku University to discuss academic cooperation and strategies to increase the number of Thai students at the university. The Ambassador also hosted a lunch for the Thai faculty and student representatives from Tohoku University, where they exchanged views on academic and non-academic activities. Currently, there are 6 Thai faculty members and 66 Thai students at Tohoku University, with 48 of them being exchange students from Thailand, majoring in engineering and dentistry.
