On 30 July 2024, Japan-Thailand Association (JTA) and Japan-Thailand Business Forum (JTBF) hosted a reception at Sumitomo Kaikan to congratulate and welcome H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, on his appointment as the Ambassador of Thailand to Japan. Members of the JTA, JTBF, Team Thailand in Tokyo and former Japanese Ambassadors to Thailand and representatives from Thai companies in Tokyo also attended the event.
On this occasion, the Ambassador delivered a speech reaffirming his commitment to work with JTBF and JTA in strengthening Thailand-Japan relations in all dimensions. He invited Japanese businesses to expand investment in Thailand, particularly in the industries that contribute to sustainable development. The Ambassador urged, through JTA and JTBF, the Japanese government to support the transition of the Thai industries, in Japanese supply chain, to greener and more sustainable manufacturing processes for the benefit of both parties. He also called for an extension of the visa exemption period for Thai nationals visiting Japan to enhance people-to-people relations.
Established in 2002, JTBF has its main goal to strengthen economic relations between Thailand and Japan. The forum consists of Japanese business executives who have previously worked in Thailand, with the Thai Ambassador to Japan serving as one of the advisors. Currently, JTBF plan to extend membership to Thai companies operating in Japan. Prior to JTBF, JTA was established in 1967 as a group of people who love and are interested in Thailand. The JTA conducts activities to promote cultural, academic and economic exchanges between Thailand and Japan.
