Ambassador strengthens cooperation with Governor of Fukushima Prefecture

28/08/2024

On 28 August 2024, Mr. UCHIBORI Masao, Governor of Fukushima Prefecture, paid an introductory courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, and discuss ways to further foster the Prefecture’s cooperation with Thailand. The Governor also shared his plan to visit Bangkok between 10 – 11 September 2024 to promote Fukushima's tourism, as well as its signature products, particularly peaches.

On this occasion, Governor UCHIBORI expressed his appreciation for Thailand’s support and contribution to the recovery of Fukushima Prefecture following the Great East Japan earthquake in 2011, particularly through tourism and import of various Fukushima products. The Ambassador reaffirmed his willingness for cooperation and sought support for Thai businesses that help create jobs and income to Fukushima residents, including Banpu Japan and two branches of Café Amazon in the Prefecture. The Ambassador also asked the Governor to consider lending his support for an extension of the visa exemption period for Thai tourists in order to provide them with sufficient time to explore new destinations and encourage more of them to come visit Fukushima.
