Ambassador and Thai officials in Japan visited Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) in Ibaraki Prefecture

On 13 September 2024, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, and officials of the Royal Thai Embassy, visited the ) Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) in Ibaraki Prefecture, upon the invitation of Nuclear Human Resources Development Center (NuHRDeC. The Thai delegation got a briefing on the International Training Program (ITP) for nuclear technology experts from various Asian countries using a "train-the-trainer" model. Nuclear experts from Thailand have participated to ITP since its inception in 1996, and the delegation had met and conversed with 3 researchers from the National Institute of Nuclear Technology of Thailand who participated in this year program.

During this visit, the Ambassador had a meeting with Mr. MOMMA Toshiyuki, Executive Director of the JAEA, Mr. NAKANO Yoshihiro, Director of NuHRDeC, as well as executives from the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) where both sides exchanged views on challenges and ways forward to enhance nuclear cooperation between Thailand and Japan, particularly in the field of research and human resource development. The Ambassador also expressed the Embassy's readiness to further collaborate with JAEA, which is one crucial agency the Embassy deems as Friend of Thailand. The Ambassador and the delegation were invited to observe a training workshop on removing radioactive contamination from skins and a lecture on environmental radioactivity monitoring technology. They were also given a tour to J-PARC facilities – a state of the art of JAEA.
