On 21 December 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with Kanda University of International Studies, organised the 17th Thai Speech Contest on the designated theme "Thailand through the Eyes of the New Generation" at Kanda University of International Studies in Chiba Prefecture. The contest was participated by 22 students from 6 institutions offering Thai language programme, namely Kanda University of International Studies, Aichi University, Osaka University, Juntendo University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and Kanda Institute of Foreign Languages. The University also organised sideline activities including Thai language essay contest and Thai traditional music and dance performances by students and alumni of Thai language major. Overall attendees of this year's speech contest and the above-mentioned activities were over 90 people.
On this occasion, Ms. Kanokporn Chotipal, Minister (Economic and Investment Affairs), on behalf of the Royal Thai Embassy, delivered the opening remarks and joined the judging panel consisting of members of Team Thailand and a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The outstanding awards were presented to Ms. NAKASE Fuka, a third-year student and Ms. IWAMOTO Isa, a second-year student, both from Kanda University of International Studies.
The Royal Thai Embassy has worked together with Kanda University of International Studies in organising the Thai speech contests consecutively for 17 years to provide a platform for Japanese students who are studying Thai language and Thai studies to develop and showcase their Thai language proficiency. Looking ahead, the Royal Thai Embassy will continue to work with relevant partners to further promote Thai language, culture and tradition in Japan.
