H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, welcomed H.E. Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Thailand, and delegation of the Board of Investment of Thailand, who paid a visit to Japan on an investment promotion mission from 19–22 February 2025. The visit aimed at promoting long-term sustainable economic partnership between Thailand and Japan, reiterating the Royal Thai Government’s policies to enhance the business environment for Japanese investors and to attract investment to Thailand.
On 20 February 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Pichai and H.E. Mr. MUTO Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) held a bilateral meeting to discuss on ways to further strengthen economic cooperation between Thailand and Japan. They subsequently co-presided over the opening ceremony of the “Thailand-Japan Investment Forum 2025”, organised by the BOI in collaboration with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) to provide first-hand information and insights on the latest Thailand’s economic landscape as well as investment incentive packages to over 400 participants from Japanese companies. During the visit, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Pichai also had one-on-one meetings with Japanese companies to attract investment to Thailand.
Ambassador Witchu also joined the Deputy Prime Minister’s meetings with Japan’s government agencies and businesses. He hosted a luncheon in honour of the Deputy Prime Minister and his delegation during which both sides discussed ways to better attract more foreign direct investment with an emphasis on technological transfer and promoting research and development in Thailand. They also had a conversation on measures to strengthen the competitiveness of Thai business firms so that they could have a greater footprint in global markets.
