On 17 February 2025, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, received a courtesy call by Ms. KANEKO Nozomi from Japan Agricultural Exchange Council (JAEC) and the Thai Agricultural Youth Delegation Batch 42, consisting of 12 agricultural trainees who were dispatched to Saitama, Iwate, Chiba, Ehime and Okinawa, to gain hands-on experiences in vegetable and fruit farming, rice cultivation, livestock, and plant nursery. Also present in the call were Ms. Chawanis Chawanawong, Minister Counsellor, and Mrs. Boondharika Krajangwongs, Minister Counsellor (Agricultural).
Miss KANEKO reported the outcome of the training and each trainee shared their experiences and key takeaways from their ten-month training with Japanese farmers, namely, especially planning and management skills in terms of finance, marketing, cultivation as well as Japanese farmers’ work ethics, characterized by their strong discipline and commitment to continuous learning.
Ambassador Witchu congratulated the trainees on the successful completion of their training, noting that the continuity of this training programme reflects the long-standing and close agricultural cooperation between Thailand and Japan and their common priority for agricultural development. He also encouraged the trainees to adapt and apply the valuable knowledge, experiences and best practices acquired in Japan to Thailand’s social and agricultural context in order to develop the Thai agricultural sector and upskill Thai farmers. Additionally, he suggested that a network of Thai agricultural youth alumni should be established and strengthened to serve as a platform for exchanging experiences and insights on the success, challenges and relevant recommendations. He also advised the Thai trainees to keep their close and cordial contacts with their Japanese host families in various agricultural sectors.
