On 10 March 2025, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, paid a courtesy call on Honorable Ms. KOIKE Yuriko, Governor of Tokyo. The Governor expressed her appreciation to the Royal Thai Embassy for its support in coordinating with relevant Thai agencies for her recent visit to Bangkok during 5-7 February 2025.
Governor Koike informed Ambassador Witchu about the fruitful outcomes of her discussion with H.E. Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, on various cooperation areas, including disaster management in response to climate change and the application of innovations to promote more livable cities, while she looks forward to welcoming the visit of Bangkok Governor and high-level representatives from both government and private sectors of Thailand at SusHi Tech Tokyo 2025 during 8-10 May 2025. Governor Koike also shared her keen interest in Thailand’s international school education system, especially foreign language learning, as well as tourism promotion and management to help boost night-time economy, as Tokyo still aims to receive many more tourists, both locals and foreigners, in years to come. In this connection, Ambassador Witchu has sought the Governor’s support on the issue of visa exemption for Thai tourists, which is proven to benefit both Japan’s economy and enhance Japan’s popularity among Thai travelers. Last year in 2024, the number of Thai tourists to Japan increased to 1.14 million, placing Thailand at number 6 among countries whose nationals come to visit Japan the most.
