Ambassador welcomes Governor of Saga Prefecture

On 18 March 2025, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, welcomed the visit to the Embassy of the Honorable Mr. YAMAGUCHI Yoshinori, Governor of Saga Prefecture. Both sides discussed ways to promote cooperation between Thailand and Saga Prefecture in such areas as tourism as well as arts and culture. On this occasion, Ambassador expressed his appreciation to Saga Prefecture for taking good care of the Thai community, and for organising the Thai Festival in Saga for eight consecutive years since 2017. The festival not only promotes Thailand and Thai products to the Japanese people, but also fosters mutual appreciation between the peoples of the two countries. Both sides also exchanged views on potential activities to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand-Japan diplomatic relations in 2027.

Saga Prefecture and Thailand have enjoyed cordial relations and close cooperation in various areas, including cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Prefecture and the Fine Arts Department of Thailand. The Prefecture has also been a popular shooting location for numerous Thai films and dramas. This year, the Thai Festival in Saga is scheduled to be held on 17-18 October 2025.
