On 1 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, along with Ms. Vipavee Rangsimaporn, Minister; the Defense and Air Attachés; the Army Attaché; the Navy Attachés and the Embassy’s officers welcomed the visit to the Embassy of the members of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) namely, (1) H.E. Mr. MATSUMOTO Hisashi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs (Member of House of Representatives, Chiba 2 terms); (2) H.E. Mr. SATO Kei (Member of the House of Councillors, Nara 2 terms); (3) H.E. Ms. MATUSUKAWA Rui (Member of the House of Councillors, Osaka 2 terms); (4) H.E. Mr. OSAKI Masanao (Member of House of Representatives, Koji 2 terms); and (5) Mr. WADA Yoshiaki (Former Member of House of Representatives, Hokkaido 3 terms)
During the meeting, Ambassador Witchu received a briefing on Japan’s security and defense policy, as well as, on the latest developments regarding Japan’s defense equipment and technology. Ambassador Witchu also updated the delegation about the recent progress concerning Japan’s support for Thailand under the OSA (Official Security Assistance) framework. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation both in the fields of traditional and non-traditional security, including cybersecurity, space security, AI, defense technology, and natural disasters technology resilience and management. They also agreed to carry on the conversation in order to explore what specific areas Thailand and Japan could deepen their collaboration.
Thailand and Japan signed the Agreement concerning the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology on 2 May 2022, as well as the Memorandum of Arrangement between the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Defense of Japan on Cooperation and Exchanges in the Field of Defense on 17 November 2019.
