On 4 September 2025 H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. KATO Akiyoshi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), at METI. Both sides discussed ways to deepen economic cooperation in priority areas and high potential sectors, including low carbon emission vehicles, green transformation and decarbonisation technologies, BCG economy and possible recycling businesses, and healthcare services. They also exchange views on how to upgrade Japan’s existing investment in Thailand with the introduction of higher value-added products, such as the manufacturing of sensors and analog chips in the electronic sector. Collaboration between Thailand and Ibaraki Prefecture, which is Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kato’s constituency, was also explored, especially in agriculture, labour, renewable energy, innovation and research.
On this occasion, Ambassador Witchu stressed the great importance Thailand has invariably attached to Japan as a cordial and long-standing economic partner. He also reaffirmed the Thai government’s determination to deepen and expand economic cooperation with Japan, which has long been Thailand’s No. 1 cumulative investor, by ways of investment promotion and enhancement of business-friendly environment.
