On 11 November 2025, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan met with Police General Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, Deputy Commissioner-General / Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking in Persons Center, Royal Thai Police, and his delegation at the Royal Thai Embassy to discuss possible areas of cooperation in providing assistance and protection for victims of human trafficking in Japan, in pursuing legal action against offenders and criminal networks as well as the issue of Thai overstayers in Japan .
Both sides exchanged views on approaches to expand the cases under investigation into tangible cooperation between Thai and Japanese law enforcement agencies in order to prevent and suppress transnational human trafficking and people smuggling syndicates, as well as efforts to crackdown on cybercrime involving false advertisements leading to illegal residence and employment of Thai overstayers in Japan. The Royal Thai Police reaffirmed its commitment to closely coordinating with relevant agencies in both Thailand and Japan to enhance law enforcement cooperation as well as ensure the protection of the rights and the welfare promotion of Thai nationals in Japan.
