Ambassador welcomes the delegation from Nittaiji Temple

26/11/2025

On 26 November 2025, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, welcomed Venerable MURAKAMI Enryu, Representative Sangha of Nittaiji Temple, along with monks and staff from the temple. The Ambassador expressed his appreciation for Nittaiji Temple’s continuing cooperation with the Royal Thai Embassy in promoting Thailand - Japan relations, particularly the wreath-laying and homage-paying ceremony on the occasion of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Day, the annual organization of the Japan-Thailand Cultural Festival since 2022, and the provision of two short-term Japanese language scholarships for Thai citizens. Both sides also discussed potential activities to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand-Japan diplomatic relations in 2027.

In 1900, His Majesty King Chulalongkorn graciously bestowed a portion of the Buddha’s relics to the Japanese Buddhist community. Subsequently, Japanese Buddhists constructed Nittaiji Temple in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, to enshrine the relics. Since its completion on 15 November 1904, Nittaiji Temple has been regarded as a key symbolic site of the long-standing and amicable ties between Thailand and Japan.
