The Royal Thai Embassy and Kanda University of International Studies co-organise the 18th Thai Speech Contest

On 20 December 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with Kanda University of International Studies, organised the 18th Thai Speech Contest under the theme "Why We Still Need to Learn Thai in the Age of AI" at Kanda University of International Studies in Chiba Prefecture. Nineteen Japanese students participated in the contest, from five institutions offering Thai language programme , namely Kanda University of International Studies, Aichi University, Osaka University, Daito Bunka University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and attracted over 100 attendees. During the intermission, current students and alumni of the Thai language major of Kanda University of International Studies also showcased traditional Thai music and dance performances .

On this occasion, Ms. Sirilak Kakanopas, Minister Counsellor (Education), on behalf of the Royal Thai Embassy, delivered the opening remarks and was part of the judging panel. The winners in each category were as follows:

Category 1: Sophomores to Seniors: Mr. YAMADA Tomoaki, Sophomore, Kanda University of International Studies

Category 2: Students with more than six months of study experience in Thailand: Ms. Kexin Wu, Senior, Kanda University of International Studies

Category 3: Students with a Thai parent: Ms. OTSUKA Maki, Junior, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies

The Royal Thai Embassy and Kanda University of International Studies have co-organised the Thai speech contests for 18 consecutive years to provide a platform for Japanese students of Thai language and Thai studies to enhance their linguistic skills and showcase their language proficiency. The Royal Thai Embassy will continue to work with relevant partners to further promote Thai language, culture, and traditions in Japan.
