2014.02.02 67th Birthday Celebration for Thai Elephant “Hanako”

On 2 February 2014, Ambassador Thanatip Upatising, attended the 67th birthday celebration of the Thai elephant “Hanako” at Inokashira Park Zoo in Tokyo.  Hanako was given by Thailand to Japan in 1949 and is now the oldest elephant natured by a zoo in Japan.

Ambassador said that Hanako is indeed an ambassador for Thailand and Japan and showed gratitude to Inokashira Park Zoo Director, staff and the Japanese who love Hanako. After that, Musashino City and Mitaka City Mayors, including Mr. Shinnawet Sarasas, the son of Mr. Somwang Sarasas, who presented Hanako to Japan, also gave speeches, while the staff taking care of Hanako gave information on Hanako’s food and her health condition.

The Royal Thai Embassy presented Hanako with bananas and strawberries, while the zoo made a special cake by toasts, red-bean buns, carrots and strawberries.
