2014.02.03 Ambassador attended Setsubun Ceremony at Naritasan Shinshoji Temple

On 3 February 2014, Ambassador Thanatip Upatising attended the annual Setsubun (Bean Throwing) Festival at Naritasan Shinshoji Temple together with diplomats from Nepal, China and Sri Lanka, Chiba Prefecture’s Member of Parliament, Japanese talents, and Sumo Champions. Approximately 50,000 people joined this big event.

Setsubun is a Japanese old custom held in February. While waiting for spring, the Japanese drive away evil spirits left from winter by throwing beans and shout “Good luck, come in!”
