On 6 March 2014, Ambassador Thanatip Upatising gave an opening speech in the press conference Thailand: Leading the Pack in ASEAN, Supporting Japans Investment in Auto Parts at Imperial Hotel, Tokyo. The press conference was organized by Reed Tradex, a leading Thai exhibition organizer, to provide information on current situation and business opportunity in Thai auto parts industry. Representatives from Thai Department of Industrial Promotion, Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN (SMRJ), and Tokyo Fuji University also shared information.
Ambassador stressed the strong ties between Thailand and Japan in all aspects, especially in economy. Japan is the top investor and one of Thailand’s leading trade partners. Automotive and auto parts industries are the core of Thailand and Japan’s economic relations, making the Thai Government, for over 40 years, continuously develop the industries. Today Thailand ranks the 9th among world automobile manufacturers thanks to its high quality in production and skilled labor. All Japanese automotive manufacturers, as well as European’s, therefore, hold confidence in establishing factories in Thailand. Japanese auto parts SMEs have constantly invested in Thailand with continuous support from the Thai Government. The latter encouraged Japanese investors to look for investment opportunity in automotive industry by using Thailand as their production base for export and expanding business to other countries in the region.
