31/03/2014

On 28 March 2014, the Royal Thai Embassy and ASEAN-Japan Centre co-organized the Networking Meeting for Thailand.  Over 120 representatives out of 400 applicants from public and private agencies attended the event, indicating high interest in Thailand among the Japanese.

During the seminar, Ambassador shared information about previous year’s Thailand and Japan in general.  The relations of the two countries are on positive level based on long strong ties in all aspects.  Economic relations are still at satisfactory level although total trade value and Japan investment in Thailand have slightly decreased.  At the same time, tourism has become significant.  In addition, both countries leaders have regularly met, while Ambassador has visited more than 30 prefectures of Japan in the past year alone and is confident that Thai mega projects are still ongoing no matter what political circumstances.  Thailand is still supporting Japan investment, opening wide range of business opportunity for the latter.  Consequently, the establishment of ASEAN Community in 2015 will be an advantage for Japan to use Thailand as the investment base in ASEAN in the form of ASEAN+1, for example.

Apart from Ambassador, Mr. Phatai Sooksommai, Minister of Commercial Affairs, Mr. Salil Wisalswadi, Minister of Economic and Investment Affairs, and Mr. Fujimura, General Manager of Tourism Authority of Thailand in Tokyo, also shared latest information about Thai trade, investment and tourism.
