23/05/2014

The Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, together with Thai government offices and state enterprise, held the 15th Thai Festival under the theme “Herbs and Spices” during 17-18 May 2014 at Yoyogi Park, Shibuya Ward, Tokyo.  The objective is to promote Thailand through its cuisine, fruits, products, classical music and dance, and handicraft.  Approximately 350,000 visitors joined the festival.

Ambassador Thanatip Upatising gave a speech in the opening ceremony, whereas H.E. Mr. Seiji Kihara, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered a congratulatory speech for the 15th anniversary of the Thai Festival. Totally 15 special Thai and Japanese guests together opened the 15th Thai Festival Anniversary mark.

This year’s festival introduced more than 180 booths promoting Thai food, fruits, and products. Booths by Thai public offices such as Tourism Authority of Thailand, Office of Commercial Affairs, Office of Agricultural Affairs, Royal Project, NGOs/NPOs, and Thai temples were included.

Highlight of the 15th Thai Festival was the exhibition booth, which showcased Thai herbs and spices with guidelines on their usage such as in food, beverage and spa; Thai sweets making, local handicraft and Thai massage demonstration; and 15-year-Thai Festival posters.  Another notable activity was the herbs and spices related stamp rally, in which participants could win a Tokyo-Bangkok roundtrip air ticket sponsored by the Thai Airways International.

Stage performance boasted Thai classical dance and music, and Muay Thai, as well as modern music by a Thai group in Japan and singers from Thailand such as Modern Dog, Vie Trio, The Star’s Kan and Dome, the Voice’s Teeranai Na Nongkai and Kittinan Chinsamnran, and Miss Thailand 2013.
