Thailand and Japan sign JCM bilateral cooperation agreement

On 19 November 2015, Gen. Surasak Karnjanarat, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand and Ms. Tamayo Marukawa, Minister of the Environment, Japan, jointly signed a memorandum of bilateral cooperation on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Thailand and Japan at the Ministry of the Environment in Tokyo. In addition, Mr. Bhakavat Tanskul, Chargé d'Affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy participated in this signing ceremony as well. Moreover, this ceremony was witnessed by senior officials of both parties including Mr. Makoto Oniki, Parliamentary Vice Minister of the Environment, Japan; Mr. Bawon Sattayawuthiphong, Minister-Counsellor (Industrial) the Royal Thai Embassy, Tokyo; Ms. Prasertsuk Chamornmarn, Executive Director of Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization; and Ms. Natarika Wayuparb Nitiphon, Deputy Executive Director, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization.

The Joint Crediting Memorandum (JCM) cooperation between Thailand and Japan aims to promote partnerships in facilitating the transfer of advanced low-carbon technologies through the establishment of a Joint Committee, which is in charge of pushing ahead the implementation of the JCM. Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization will perform the role of Thailand JCM Secretariat to the Joint Committee to screen the proposed JCM projects and proceed to carbon credits approval.
