2013.12.14 8th Thai Speech Contest for University Students in Japan

On 14 December 2013, the Royal Thai Embassy in corporation with Kanda University of International Studies held the 8th Thai Speech Contest for Japanese students who study Thai language in their universities to present their ability in Thai and give their opinions through Thai speech.  The competition also allowed university students to exchange their views on Thai studies.

The contest was held at the Millennium Hall, Kanda University of International Studies, where Minister Singtong Lapisatepun gave opening remarks.  Seventeen Bachelor degree students of Thai Major from seven universities in Japan including Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (Tokyo), Osaka University (Osaka Prefecture), University of Tsukuba (Ibaraki Prefecture), Keio University (Tokyo), Meiji University (Tokyo), Ritsumeikan University (Kyoto) and Kanda University of International Studies (Chiba Prefecture) competed in the speech contest.

Each contestant must deliver the speech under the title of “Love” and answer a question in Thai. The selection panel was composed of representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy’s Office of Educational Affairs, Tourism Authority of Thailand in Tokyo, Chulalongkorn University’s Sirindhorn Thai Language Institute.

The most outstanding prize of this year contest belonged to Ms. Kie Nakamura from Kanda University of International Studies, who received a Thai Airways International’s Tokyo-Bangkok round trip ticket, a trophy and a certificate. Other winners received a trophy, a certificate, and a book.  Thai traditional dance and music were also performed by Kanda University of International Studies’ students.
