2013.10.12-14 Embassy participated in cultural activities

During 12-14 October 2013, the Royal Thai Embassy had participated in cutlural activities in Tokyo and other prefectures as follows:

1. 28th Japan-Thailand Nagamasa Festival

On 13 October 2013, H.E. Mr. Thanatip Upatising and his spouse, together with Mr. Suraphon Svetasreni, Governor of Tourism Authirity of Thailand attended the 28th Japan-Thailand Nagamasa Festival at Sengen Shopping Street, Aoi district, Shizuoka City and delivered the congratulatory speech at the opening ceremony. The Embassy and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Tokyo Office have supported the festival since 2007.

This year, TAT Tokyo Office conducted Thai traditional wedding ceremony for 3 Japanese bridal couples. Ambassador and his spouse, and Governor Suraphon also presided over the ceremony and presented the gifts to them, including air tickets to Thailand, sponsored by Thai Airways International and Asia Atlantic Airlines, and accommodation coupons, sponsored by Diamond Cliff Resort, Phuket, Sheraton Pattaya, Chonburi and Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort, Chiang Mai.

2. Ryusei Matsuri: the Dragon Group Festival 2013

During 12-13 October 2013, Minister Singtong Lapisatepun, his spouse and representatives from Thailand, including Deputy Governor of Yasothon Prefecture, Mayor of Yasothon City, and officers from Tourism Authority of Thailand, joined the welcome reception for Ryusei Matsuri: the Dragon Group Festival 2013 and the annual festival in Chichibu City, Saimata Prefecture. The festival has been carried out to worship and show gratitude to god. Totally 30 rockets were fired up this year.

Both Chichibu City and Yasothon City hold similarity in their ryusei matsuri, or rocket festival, leading to the two cities signing as sister cities. Yasothon City has always dispatched representatives to Chichibu City’s Ryusei Matsuri, strengthening relations between Thailand and Japan.

3. Little Ambassadors – Thailand

On 13 October 2013, the Royal Thai Embassy and International Women’s Club JAPAN Foundation co-organized “Little Ambassadors – Thailand” at Kojimachi Gakuen in Tokyo. The activity, allowing Japanese children to learn and experience Thai culture, received 80 participants of children and parents. The children gave a presentation about Thailand from their research or their experience about Thailand. They showed photos and pictures to the audience, while briefly explaining about their attitude on Thailand.

The Embassy provided information on Thailand and food, Khanom Dok Jok making demonstration, Thai boxing demonstration from Saenchai Muaythai Gym, as well as having 35 members of Wattana Alumni Chorus from Thailand sing in the event. Thailand tourism, Thai food and fruits brochures were also distributed.

The children and parents showed enthusiasm in the activities and seemed to have positive attitude towards Thailand, while some of them expressed their interest in visiting the country in the future.

4. Thai Fair in Keio Floral Garden

During 13-14 October 2013, Minister-Counselor Pattarat Hongtong led Royal Thai Embassy staff to a Thai fair, “Land of Smile – flowers and greens”, held at Keio Floral Garden, Chofu City, Tokyo. Thai food such as Tom-Yam Koong, Thai fruits and sweets were available for tasting. The fair also included exhibition on Thailand, Thai fruit carving demonstration, as well as Thai food materials, products and food sale. Both Japanese and other foreigners enjoyed themselves at the event.
