On 31 March 2013, the Royal Thai Embassy arranged the annual consular services for the Thai community in Japan at the Kashiwazaki Area International Association, Kashiwazaki, Niigata Prefecture.
His Excellency Mr. Thanatip Upatising, the Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, led the Consular Team to provide consular services to the Thai community in Niigata Prefecture and nearby areas. The services included passport issuance, legalization and household documents issuances as well as counseling for Thais experiencing with everyday life in Japan. The Thai Network in Japan (TNJ), a volunteer-based organization run by Thais, also set up a mobile counseling service for Thai residing in Japan, together with Dr. Tomita Shigeru, for free medical check-up and consultation.
In this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Thanatip Upatising also met Mr. Imai Motoki, President of the Kashiwazaki Area International Association, to discuss ways and means to better assist and protect 170 Thai nationals residing in Kashiwazaki area, which accounts for 1/3 of Thais community living in this Prefecture (470 Thais currently live in Niigata Prefecture). Mr. Thanatip met the Thai community and encouraged them to contact the Consular Section in case of needs and assistance and also raised the awareness among Thai people to prepare for natural disaster given that there is a possibility that Japan could encounter an earthquake in the future.
