2013.05.11-12 14th Thai Festival

During 11-12 May 2013, the Royal Thai Embassy, together with Thai government offices and public enterprises, held the 14th Thai Festival at Yoyogi Park, Shibuya, Tokyo.  The objective is to promote Thailand through Thai culture such as Thai food, fruits, products, traditional dance and modern art and culture, and Thailand-Japan relations information endorsement.  Approximately 300,000 people joined the event.

Ambassador Thanatip Upatising gave an opening speech for the 14th Thai Festival.  Thai honorable guests who attended the Opening Ceremony included His Serene Highness Prince Bhisatej Rajani, Chairman of the Royal Project Foundation, Miss Pensuda Priaram, Chairman of the Board, TAT, Mr. Ampon Kittiampon, Chairman of Board of Directors, Thai Airways International P.C.L. and Secretary-General to the Cabinet.  Japanese honorable guests were Mr. Yasuhisa Shiozaki, Member of the House of Representatives, Chairman of the Japan-Thailand Parliamentarians’ Friendship League, Acting Chairman of Policy Council, Liberal Democratic Party and former Chief Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Kazuyuki Hamada, Member of the House of Councilors and former Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kazuchika Iwata, Member of the House of Representatives, and Mr. Teisuke Kitayama, President of Japan Thailand Association (JTA), Chairman of Japan-Thailand Business Forum (JTBF), and Chairman of the Board of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.  Other 300 guests also joined the Opening Ceremony.

More than 250 booths held a wide range of Thai food and products and other Thailand showcase such as those of Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Airways International, Royal Project, Support Art and Craft Centre, and exhibition on agricultural cooperation among Japan-ASEAN and Thailand, and Thai cuisine demonstration. Stage show also highlighted Thai traditional dance and music, Muay Thai, and other modern music by Thai artists and Miss Thailand 2012.  The 14th Thai Festival was also a part of the 40th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations celebration.
