On 24 July 2013, Mr. Makoto Ito, Director for International Youth Exchange Affairs of the Cabinet Office paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Thanatip Upatising and urged support and cooperation from the Embassy on the 40th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP), which will be held from 29 October to 16 December 2013. After various activities in Japan, the ship will set sail to Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines before coming back to Japan.
The Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program was launched as the joint cooperation between Japan and ASEAN countries in 1974 and since then has been carried out annually. This year marks the 40th program, which is coincided with the 40th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Relations. It aims at building mutual understanding and friendship among youth of Japan and Southeast Asian countries, while broadening their global perspectives and enhancing their leadership in each social area.
