2013.08.02 Ambassador attended the opening ceremony of the UNESCO Biotechnology School in Asia at Osaka U.

On 2 August 2013, Ambassador Thanathip Upatising attended and delivered the speech at the opening ceremony of the UNESCO Biotechnology School in Asia at Osaka University. This program is the international program on the biology for the postgraduate students from educational institutions in 5 countries including Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. On behalf of Thailand’s participating institutions, Prof. Dr. Soottiporn Chittmittrapap, Secretary-General of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) also attended the opening ceremony.

UNESCO Biotechnology School in Asia is established in 2012 and is a part of the Asian CORE Program which is the collaborative project of the International Center for Biotechnology, Osaka University and Mahidol University. The Asian CORE Program is carried out under the cooperation between the Office of the National Research Council of Thailand and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), which has been established since 1987.

 

The Ambassador touched on the importance of academic exchanges between younger generations who will play a key role in development in Southeast Asia and Japan in the future and also expressed the gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and Osaka University for their support to the program. The Thai educational institutions joining the program are as follow; Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Mahidol University and the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.
