2013.08.07 The Art Collection Charity Event at Hotel Okura, Tokyo

On 7 August 2013, Mr. Waravuth Pooapinya, Minister Counsellor attended the opening ceremony of “The 19 th Art Collection Charity Event the Great Masters of Japan and France with Monet, Utrillo and Saeki - The Beautiful Towns and Villages of France -” at Hotel Okura, Tokyo. The art pieces displayed in the event were works by the French and Japanese impressionist artists. The proceeds from the event will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

The Embassy supported the event by lending the oil painting of Kanji Maeda titled “Umi (the sea)” which belongs to the Thai Ambassador’s Residence. The painting was completed in 1929.

Kanji Maeda is a western-style artist who was born in Tottori prefecture. After graduated from the Department of Western Art of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1921, he went to France to study the realism art at an art college in Paris. He came back to Japan in 1925 and continued his work on arts such as establishing “The Society of 1930”. However, he got a severe illness in 1929 and worked on the painting “Umi” while he was in a hospital. The painting was awarded the 11th Teikokubijutsuin prize.

The said event is open during 7 August - 1 September 2013 at the Ascot Hall, Hotel Okura,Tokyo.
