The Royal Thai Embassy invited representatives from Thailand’s government agencies and media to Japan during 24-30 September 2013 under the Royal Thai Embassy’s strategic project on promoting and preserving Thailand’s image in Japan. The group, consisted of representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Royal Thai Police, Channel 3 TV, Modern 9 TV, Koosang Koosom Magazine, Thairat Newspaper, and Matichon Newspaper, was requested to obtain data regarding how to better prepare for traveling to Japan under the latter’s 15-day-visa exemption policy as well as how the Royal Thai Embassy in Japan works to protect and assist the Thai residing in Japan. The study trip also sought to promote Japan’s regional tourism and people-to-people exchange through the new direct flight between Bangkok-Sendai, which Thai Airways International will soon operate. All data collected will be later distributed in Thailand by means of various channels.

Upon its arrival to the Royal Thai Embassy, Ambassador welcomed the guests and explained the objectives of and expected results from the project, Embassy’s mission in protecting and assisting the Thai in Japan, and its policy in preserving and promoting Thailand’s image in Japan. Heads of Office of Labour Affairs, Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Thai Airways International in Tokyo, also cooperated in providing information on labour and tourism situation in Japan.

Consequently, the group met with Japanese government agencies such as Japan Tourism Agency, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation and Tourism, and Immigration Bureau, to learn about Japan’s policy and strategy on tourism promotion. The briefing also included measures on 15-day-visa exemption for Thai tourists, Japan’s cooperation in protecting the Thai, and immigration investigation following such visa exemption.

Deputy Director General of Department of Consular Affairs delivered present to representative of IM Japan
With assistance from the Office of Labour Affairs, the group also had a chance to visit Tsuda Industrial Co., Ltd. to hear briefing from IM Japan (International Manpower Development Organization, Japan), which recruits foreign technical interns for Japanese SMEs, and meet with and interview Thai technical interns.

Courtesy call on Miyagi Governor and Sendai Mayor
During 26-27 September 2013, the participants visited Miyagi, one of the prefectures which were affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, in order to study Sendai City’s policy in promoting its tourism, especially after Bangkok-Sendai direct flight commences.
