During the meeting, Migagi Prefecture thanked Thailand for its generous assistance during hardship influenced by the Great East Earthquake in Japan in 2011.   At present, restoration of Miyagi Prefecture and Sendai City is progressively seen.  The prefecture also wished to cooperate closely with Thailand to strengthen their relations in trade, tourism, culture and sports.

The Ambassador stressed that more Thai tourists visited Japan after 15-day-visa exemption was granted.  Thanks to the new direct flight between Bangkok and Sendai, which is scheduled to operate from 3 December 2013 three flights per week, more tourists from Thailand are expected to visit the prefecture accordingly.  This shall pave way for more opportunities in trade expansion and people-to-people exchange. On the other hand, Sendai City will hold its first Thai Festival during 5-6 October 2013, allowing local residents to understand Thailand better.  The Ambassador, in this occasion, asked for the prefecture’s cooperation for organizing the festival in following years.
