2013.10.02 Tochigi Governor paid courtesy call on Ambassador

On October 2, 2013, Mr. Tomikazu Fukuda, Tochigi Governor, Mr. Fumio Saito, Nikko City Mayor, and Mr. Masaru Takaku, Nasu Town Mayor, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Thanatip Upatising. The Governor thanked for various assistance from Thai people after the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011. Governor stated that there were damages caused by the earthquake but the areas were reconstructed.  He also assured the safety of radiation leak from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and introduced many famous sightseeing spots in Tochigi prefecture such as Nikko city and Nasu Town.  Governor wishes much more Thai tourists to visit Tochigi.

The Ambassador stressed the importance of Tochigi Prefecture to Thailand, due to the fact that there are about 1,700 Thai people living in Tochigi and 9 companies from Tochigi Prefecture investing in Thailand, and that there are also many Thai tourists visiting Tochigi.  In terms of education, there are 8 Thai students studying in various universities in Tochigi including Utsunomiya University. In addition, there are various types of collaboration between universities in Tochigi with universities in Thailand.
