On 6 October 2013, Minister Singtong Lapisatepun and the Royal Thai Embassy staff attended the 1st Thai Festival in Sendai at Asutonagachonomori Ground as well as Max Muay Thai World Champion 2013 JAPAN, held at Xebio Areana Sendai.

The Thai Festival was held between 5-6 October 2013 with cooperation from Junior Chamber International Sendai and Sendai City, while the Royal Thai Embassy gave it a support. The festival showcased Thai food, products and carving demonstration and trial. Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Airways International also joined. Performances included Thai boxing and Thai traditional dance by Thai students from Tohoku University, allowing participants to experience Thai culture and learn more about Thailand and its relations with Japan.

In the evening of the same day, Max Muay Thai World Champion 2013 JAPAN, where both Thai and Japanese fighters joined, was a part of Max World Champion Series, which open matches in four countries. The winner of the each match will fight for the world championship in Thailand in December 2013. The event contributed to better recognition of Thai martial art in Japan, while supporting for the restoration of Japan’s northeaster part hit by tsunami.

From 3 December 2013, the new direct flight between Bangkok and Sendai by Thai Airways International shall contribute to tourism between Thailand-Sendai and Japan, deepening relations between Thailand and Japan’s northeastern region.
